Automation and Supervision Revamping of a Mixer and a Coating Machine

How can you ensure production continuity when faced with obsolete equipment? This was the challenge taken on by B2C Engineering for a major player in the pharmaceutical industry.

With Siemens announcing the end-of-life for its S7-300 PLCs, the client needed to modernize two critical components of its production line: a mixer and a coating machine. These systems work in tandem — one homogenizing tablet contents, the other applying protective coating.

B2C Engineering delivered a full revamp of the automation and supervision systems: replacing legacy PLCs with Siemens S7-1500, migrating supervision to AVEVA System Platform, implementing Recipe Manager Plus for batch management, and redesigning the entire HMI to improve usability and security.

As no functional documentation existed, an extensive reverse engineering process was conducted to rebuild a detailed functional description before reprogramming. The outcome: a fully documented, validated, and future-proof system ready to support high-quality pharmaceutical production.
